New Life . . .

5900 Burke Way

My parents bought this home in Kern City [retirement community of Bakersfield] eleven years ago. Before this they lived out in the 'sticks' farming. It wasn't a easy move at 83 and 93 years of age but it turned out to be the best for them. They made good friends, enjoyed exercise classes at the rec center, Lions Club, pot lucks, gardening, lunch bunch, seniors FHE group, and the blessings of attending church.

At the age of 94 my Mother decided it was time to move and give up driving. With a very s...l...o...w... housing market we felt strongly that in order to move the house in a hurry, we needed a fantastic realtor to price it right. The good news is it sold in nineteen days!!! Now the hard part began, moving out in 30 days.

Larry (my brother), Mom, Vivian (sister-in-law), and Becky (John's wife)

I have a supportive family and with their help we gave away the big furniture and all that was left was the stuff for Salvation Army and the dump. Also my Mother's ward family helped with the packing and hauling off stuff. With everyone pitching in I was able to move Mom before the thirty days was up.

John, Becky, and Leo on moving day

My mother's new life will be with us in Arroyo Grande. Mom is an avid gardener. She is looking forward to gardening, her continued work in the Los Angeles Temple, decorating her bedroom, and going on trips. [Yes, she wants to travel; she has a list and my brother and I better be prepared!] This will be an adjustment for my family but it will be worth it.

How sweet! Your mom is pretty active for her age! I hope you and Leo can keep up with her!

I'm glad the move went well, that was a lot of work for you. We're excited to visit Grandma in her new house. (And to see you guys too.)
Love,
Becky
